About Elke

Elke Matthijs

I graduated in 2001 as Master in Visual Arts from the Sint-Lucas School in Brussels.
I currently teach at the Art Academy of Hove.

Early in my career my sculptures showed universal themes.
These contrast the drawings and paintings where I more depict views from daily life.

"The Woman" and "Protection" have a prominent place in my works.
I often use contrasting, dialogueing materials, expressing capturing memories of my life.
Living in Rwanda is and was an inspiring experience.
